Women arrested for growing weed in Edcouch

Two women are behind bars tonight after Edcouch police officers raid their home this morning and found them in possession of several plants of marijuana.

Acting on a tip, police officers searched a home located at 203 south industrial street at an Edcouch neighborhood this morning where they discovered several plants of marijuana.

Police arrested two adult females who supposedly cultivated the marijuana plants in small pots.

Two children under the age of 5 were inside the home at the time of conducting the drug raid… Child protective services was notified immediately of their condition and both toddlers were then placed in their grandparents custody.

The execution of the search warrant also led officers to the recovery of drug paraphernalia and small plastic baggies used to package marijuana ready for sale.

According to Edcouch police chief, Eloy Cardenas, his officers had begun conducting surveillance at the home nearly two weeks ago… He told fox 2 news, harvesting marijuana are beginning to pop up in his city.

If convicted of cultivating marijuana, both women could face up to 10 years in state prison and pay a 10 thousand dollar fine.

Both women are expected to be arraigned tomorrow on drug possession and other related charges.
