Woman Lies to Police About Being Assaulted

A 27-year-old woman is behind bars tonight for lying to police about being assaulted. Evelia Edith Ortiz out of Pharr was arrested on Monday by McAllen police officers after she reported having been a victim of an aggravated assault. Turns out, she made the whole thing up. The police investigation revealed Ortiz provided false information and made a false statement to officers when she claimed to have been assaulted by several individuals who pulled out a weapon and threatened her. Ortiz went before Municipal Court Judge Kathleen Henley and was charged with providing a false report and two counts of perjury. Judged Henley issued a one million dollar bond on each charge against Ortiz.
