Woman Lies to Police About Being Assaulted

Evelia Edith Ortiz out of Pharr was arrested on Monday by McAllen police officers after she reported having been a victim of an aggravated assault. Turns out, she made the whole thing up. The police investigation revealed Ortiz provided false information and made a false statement to officers when she claimed to have been assaulted by several individuals who pulled out a weapon and threatened her. Ortiz went before Municipal Court Judge Kathleen Henley and was charged with providing a false report and two counts of perjury. Judged Henley issued a one million dollar bond on each charge against Ortiz.
