A Los Fresnos woman is in federal custody after attempting to smuggle more than a million dollars worth of cocaine into the valley.
U.s. customs and border protection officers say 26-year-old Monica Aguirre and her two young children were crossing the Brownsville and Matamoros international bridge late Wednesday night when she was sent for a secondary inspection.
Officers noticed discrepancies in the backseat area of the 2001 grand Cherokee Aguirre was driving, but it was ‘gulliver’ the drug dog that alerted authorities to the 16 packages of cocaine found under the backseat of the vehicle. Aguirre was arrested and her children were turned over to a family member.
