Weslaco Lays Off City Employees

The move made by City Manager Francisco Castellanos this morning, now puts Police Chief J.D. Martinez in the un-employment line. Fire Chief Art Avila will fill his role in the interim. Other layoffs include that of David Salinas, Public Works Director, Oscar Garcia, assistant public works director, Arnold Rodriguez, hr director and Anne Mata, the city manager’s secretary. Castellanos said the move had to be made in order to control spending. A hiring freeze has been announced as well as a 5% pay cut for some salaried city employees.
