An Iraq war veteran says he was kicked out of several valley malls for no better reason than he requires a segway to overcome a disability he received while defending this country. A day after the 19th anniversary of the American’s with disabilities act, David Guzman, a 16-year army veteran, filed a civil lawsuit against La Plaza Mall and the Rio Grande Premium Outlets. His lawyer, Corina Spencer, tells Fox 2 News how everything got started, a piece of shrapnel in his leg prevents Guzman from traveling long distances. Guzman decided to submit an application for a segway, making him the first recipient of this kind of device south of San Antonio. By going through with this lawsuit Guzman says the message is clear, Guzman and his representatives would simply like to know what’s the difference between using a wheelchair and a segway.
