Researchers from the university of western Ontario found couples who share responsibility for paid and uncompensated work say they are happier than those who participate in other family models.
It’s called the shared-roles category and it works like this….
Each partner’s unpaid work is within forty-to-sixty-percent of the *total* unpaid work.
The category is a growing one and represented more than twenty-five-percent of respondents.
Researchers argue that the shared-roles model is advantageous because it promotes gender equity and leaves women less vulnerable in case of divorce or their spouse dies.
Still, the complimentary-traditional family model — that’s when men do more paid work and the woman more unpaid work- -remains that largest category… But it is declining.
Researchers say, couples are more likely to choose the shared-roles model when they are less religious and the woman has more resources.
The study was conducted as part of the social sciences and humanities research council a national network based at western.
