July 10, 2008 News   Print Print   Email this Article Email this Article   No Comments

The valley alliance of mentors for opportunities (VAMOS) the University of Texas Pan-American foundation announced a 2 million dollar matching endowed scholarship program in what was an emotional day for UTPA president Dr. Blandina Cardenas.
Since it’s establishment in 1996, VAMOS has given back to the community through several endowments.
Today VAMOS and UTPA showed their work as a business, to re-invest if you will in this community’s product, its people.
1 of six children, Adriana Villareal was a recipient herself some years ago. And although she admits her struggles have been many and difficult she now has her bachelors and masters degree and contributes her success to VAMOS.
With scholarships ranging as far up as $20,000 dollars, it’s the university’s hope to see a bachelor degree on the wall of every home.
