Officials concerned with children left inside vehicles

Valley officials continue dealing with a dilemma that has placed many children in danger. It’s called negligence.
If you knowingly leave your child or abandon your child in a vehicle or a park then you can face jail time and a 10 thousand dollar fine.”
In the most recent case, a mom decided to leave her two sons unattended in her car while she went shopping for more than an hour. A couple that was walking by noticed that the kids looked sick and called 911.
“They noticed that the boys were sweating. All the doors were locked. The car was actually off. They called the police and when the mom came out they arrested her for child endangerment.”
This is the most common type of child endangerment, but some parents aren’t getting the picture.
“Even though you only plan to leave your child in the car for a few minutes, it’s important to note that the temperature inside changes drastically within seconds. 100 plus degrees can be fatal.”
Victor Ayala, a father of two understands that parenting is very difficult, but he is always aware of what his children are doing.
“The kids are defenseless. They don’t know how to roll down a window or open a door. There should be stricter laws.”
In an attempt to reduce the number of child endangerment cases the Cameron County’s district attorney’s office will soon launch an educational campaign.
“The district attorney’s office will be pressuring those parents to take responsibility, to be careful, you know it’s a child.”
