Valley man pleads guilty to stabbing neighbor

An elderly man has pleaded guilty to stabbing his neighbor to death.
64- year-old Francisco Rivas – Zapata admitted to the murder of Cointa Mechanca, a 60 year-old woman.
Both were residents of the retirement community “villa del sol” in Brownsville. The victim was found dead in her apartment on June of last year.
Even though the accused declared himself guilty in front of a judge he has chosen to be sentenced by a jury who will base their decision on the testimonies presented. Rivas-zapata could face life in prison
