Aida Mae Rodriguez was found shot and burned in a sugar cane field south of Donna. Authorities found Rodriguez’ daughter on the side of the road just several miles away from her mothers body. 40-year-old Samuel Villarreal plead guilty to the murder of Rodriguez earlier this year. Villarreal and Rodriguez were allegedly dating. Villarreal claims Hinojosa helped gag Rodriguez and took her from her Weslaco home a day before her body was found.
Although Villarreal has implicated Hinojosa in the young teens death, Hinojosa and his attorney say he had nothing to do with the case and that he is an innocent man.
The jury deliberated earlier this morning and determined he was not guilty of murder, capital murder, or kidnapping. However they did find him guilty of unlawful restraint.
Hinojosa and his attorney plan to appeal the unlawful restraint charge and will return to court on Friday.
