Parents, if you are thinking twice about having your child vaccinated, you might want to consult a pediatrician.
Doctors can play a key role in explaining the benefits and addressing concerns about the risks. The advice to parents is detailed in this week’s New England journal of medicine. New Emory university research has found that vaccine refusal is a growing trend supported by the number of children exempted from school immunization requirements for non-medical reasons.
Officials have also noted that some parents insist on delaying vaccinations, spreading them out over extended periods, or skipping some shots, which may leave children vulnerable to diseases that can be prevented by vaccination.
The research concludes parents who are influenced by their child’s healthcare provider are twice as likely to consider vaccines safe compared to parents who said their decisions were not influenced by the provider.
In a national survey- -almost forty- percent of pediatricians said they would not provide care to families that refuse all vaccines.
