Tax season is here and you might want to think twice before you head off to the nearest tax center.

Nowadays, practically anyone can prepare your federal tax return and charge a fee without having to hold any type of license or meet any requirements… But after a recent study, the Internal Revenue Service has decided that for the first time ever, tax preparers need to be watched over closely.

IRS regional spokesperson, Irma Trevino told fox 2 news the new rules will require testing and registration.

Tax preparers will need to register with the IRS by the end of 2010… But the IRS is taking steps now to make sure paid tax payers are doing things properly.

According to the IRS, even if you pay someone else to prepare your federal tax return, you are legally responsible for any mistakes.

Tax payers beware and remember… What you don’t know… Can and will cost you.
