It goes without saying this is a tragic irony in that a man who has dedicated over a decade of his life working at a cemetery helping families in grief, has his family now mourning for him.
It was like any other day at Hillcrest Memorial Park, where Supervisor Guadalupe Mendoza took charge of pending work on the property. This time a tombstone apparently needed maintenance.
Mendoza had been an employee for over 10 years, building an important reputation in the community.
Employees tell FOX 2 NEWS, this kind of incident is unheard of. But such a tragedy naturally raises questions about the security standards at the park.
For now an autopsy has been ordered and OSHA investigators will determine the safety standards of Hillcrest Memorial in the coming days.
