A new San Diego state university study found high school and college students are five times more likely to suffer anxiety and other mental issues compared to kids during the great depression.

The study looked at questionnaires filled out as far back as 19-38.For example, in 19-39 five percent of students had hypo-mania — a measure of anxiety and unrealistic optimism. In two thousand seven, that number shot up to thirty-one percent.

The study’s authors think modern day pop culture may play a role, from wealth to appearance to status.

Fox news medical contributor doctor Keith Ablow thinks narcissism also plays a role.

The study will appear in the journal “clinical psychology review” if you’d like to know more.
