Taxes for the city of Elsa will increase soon.
The city of Elsa is working to pay another debt they have acquired from the waste management company BFI, which stems from the same year as their IRS debt in 2003.
The BFI waste management system is the company that collects trash for the city of Elsa. Because the city has not raised its taxes since 2003, they have an additional$ 228,000 dollars debt to BFI. The court has ruled that the city must pay an additional 8 cents on their taxes to help pay this debt.
The average home in Elsa costs about $38,000 dollars, and the taxes due on a home that price were about $289 dollars. With the tax raise of 10 cents, the homeowner would pay $314 dollars. The city is also working to pay off their 1.3 million dollar debt, which in part is owed to the IRS and by doing so they will be raising taxes by another 8 cents.
When including the eight cents, the tax rise for the city of Elsa will be 18 cents total. And for the average price in taxes of a $38,000 dollars home, will go from about $289 to $344 dollars. The city has to make up for the city officials who did not raise taxes from 2003 to this year.
The city will be holding a public hearing on the tax increase Wednesday September 3rd. Acting city manager Paul Vazaldua has retracted his resignation and will continue giving his services to the Elsa community
