T.A.K.S. TESTING QUESTIONED
Representatives of the entity known as valley interfaith testified today before a committee on public school accountability at a public hearing in Brownsville, TX.
The group is urging the committee to recommend changes and is firm in their belief that punitive consequences for not passing the Texas assessment of knowledge and skills test –or TAKS— are not working and should be abolished.
Many have also expressed concerns about the TAKS test not doing a good job of evaluating the potential of students that are at either the high and low ends of the education spectrum.
“We are here to get their testimony about the affect is having on the children, and to ask for them to re-look at task testing and see if there’s a better way to hold our children’ accountable, because we know that’s important”
Another controversial measure is on its way, special education students will begin taking the same TAKS test as regular students next year.

Maybe now that George Bush is finishing his last term, our next President will do away with this stressful TAKS test. I know that the test is being phased out for the highschool students in the near future, but the other children(elementary and middle school)are being overwhelmed as well. Students, parents, teachers, and principals are all tired of it(TAKS test)
