Community Pays Respects to Slain RGC School District Employees

School district officials held a memorial ceremony in honor of the victims of Wednesday’s double homicide. Family, friends and district personnel gathered outside the multi-purpose center to remember the two district employees who were found tied up and shot in the head. Oneida Balderas Garza, 44, and Lourdes Luna, 33, were found dead by Garza’s husband Wednesday morning at their home on 263 Ebony Circle, across the street from the Rio Grande high school. Donna Inmate Dies in Police Custody

DONNA — Another person dies in the custody of Donna police. This is the second case being investigated by the Texas Rangers this week. According to a statement released by the Donna Police Chief, 28-year-old José Luis Garza was found unconscious in his cell after an attempt to hang himself this morning. Garza was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect was arrested for family violence assault at a home located on the 2900 block of Yanez Street. We begin tonight in Rio Grande City, where the Starr County District Attorney’s office raided the county’s tax collector’s office arresting 15 people including tax assessor Maria del Carmen Pena and six government employees. A Brownsville police officer who shot and killed 23-year-old José Roman Rodriguez is cleared by a grand jury. Back in August, Officer Rolando Trujillo Jr. identified Rodriguez as a suspect in a robbery at a nearby gas station.
