Sylvia Handy and Husband Re-indicted
Hidalgo County Commissioner, Sylvia Handy, dawned a smile as she left courtside by side her husband, Juan Gabriel Espronceda. Both have been re-indicted by a federal grand jury. The federal grand jury charged handy with three counts of tax fraud. They have pleaded not guilty. According to a superseding indictment, handy paid the women with taxpayer money for housekeeping and babysitting services. She then filed for more than $3,200 in child-care tax credits as if she had paid them with her own money.
Although prosecutors handed over more than 100 security CD’s and DVD’s where supposedly they prove how both handy and her husband are guilty, the defendants will be reviewing the evidence, remaining confident of their clients innocence.
Commissioner Handy, Espronceda and their team of lawyers will return to court on July 6th for pre-trial and on the seventh for the trial.
