At 5:30 this afternoon members of the hidalgo county sheriff department’s narcotics squad and mission police officers spotted a suspicious transaction between 3 vehicles at a convenience store located on 5 mile line and Goodwin road.
Agents then tried to stop the vehicle but the driver led them in a small pursuit for several blocks. The pursuit ended just south of 5-mile line and Davis lane where the driver bailed out of the explorer leaving a total of 122 bundles of pot behind, moments later, the alleged smuggler was captured.
The recovery of the 616 pounds of marihuana is a result of the hidalgo county sheriff department’s street level strike against crime. The ford explorer and the bundles of pot remain in the hidalgo county sheriff’s department evidence room.
As for the suspect, his name was not yet released by sheriff Lupe Trevi
