A new study found a stressful work environment brought on by a lack of team spirit increases worker depression. Odds are employees will turn to antidepressants for help. The study is based on data from more than thirty-three hundred workers in Finland. Researchers with the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health found those who think team spirit in their workplace is poor are 60% more likely to be depressed and 50% more likely to be on antidepressants.
Researchers say more attention should be paid to a job’s impact on a person’s mental state.
They say because we spend the majority of our days at work, its contribution to our overall psychological well-being is substantial. The findings appear in the journal “occupational and environmental medicine.
