For over an hour Thursday morning two McAllen schools went on lockdown mode…the reason? A car thief had made a run for it and was heading towards the McAllen Memorial High School and Cathey Middle School campuses.
McAllen Police had encountered a man who was linked to a stolen 1996 Ford Taurus. The vehicle had been stolen near second street and Nyssa Avenue earlier today. When authorities found the vehicle a man in the area sped off as officers approached the car. A perimeter was set up to locate the man but to no avail.
McAllen Police tell Fox 2 News that the suspect was lost near First Street and Vine Avenue. No additional information regarding the suspect’s appearance was given. Students at both campuses were not under any direct threat.
