Starting March 1st travelers to Mexico will have to carry passports

Foxrio2.com is not responsible for any misunderstanding.Beginning one week from today, there will be a new requirement for anyone traveling into the interior of Mexico. A passport will be needed for all foreign travelers when they cross checkpoints about thirteen miles south of the border.
“Staring March 1 American and Canadian citizens who arrive by airplane, land or sea, they have to show their passports but only when they get to the checkpoints in different kilometers in highways” -Miriam Medel

In other words Mexican officials will require folks who plan to visit Mexico past the border-towns to show their passports. For example if you are traveling on bus to a city such as Monterrey or Mexico City, you will be asked at various checkpoint, beginning 13 miles after the border to show your passport.

This new law shouldn’t cause too many hassles for us citizens. Back in June 2009,the us state department began requiring all travelers to show their passports when re entering the united states.

Medel reminds u.s or Canadian citizens traveling into Mexico to still obtain a tourist card from an international crossing or port of entry to legally travel beyond the border area apart from their passport.
