Ed Bailey tore a muscle in his thigh while playing a friendly game of flag football in Iraq. After several surgeries… Including adding screws and a metal plate… It’s not healing. So the national guard commander is going to try out a new procedure that’s still experimental.

Doctors hope to “grow” new muscle cells and hopefully repair the baseball-sized tear.

During the operation, surgeons will implant an enzyme created from a pig intestine compound that will hopefully encourage muscle cell growth.

Doctors have had success with two other soldiers who underwent the same procedure.
