Smugglers increased pursuits for La Joya Police

Officers had two such pursuits today. Antonio Rodriguez joins us now from the fox2 news control room with details. Antonio.
A human smuggler and 14 undocumented immigrants were detained after a short police pursuit in la Joya.
La Joya police officers participated in two pursuits today… Early this morning an officer attempted to stop the driver of a white minivan to notify him that his tires were dangerously under-inflated… Instead of coming to a complete halt, the driver speeds off to a nearby brush area.
Us border patrol agents and helicopters quickly combed the area in search for at least 20 undocumented immigrants who ran away.
Meanwhile, another police officer notices a red minivan traveling through the city at a high rate of speed… He attempts to stop the vehicle and a short pursuit ensued… The minivan comes to a stop, and the driver manages to flee leaving his human load behind.
Human smuggling has become a problem in la joya, one possible solution, police say, could be governor Perry’s contingency plan to strengthen border cities law enforcement agencies against spillover violence and organized crime.
2 Salvadorian women were among the 14 immigrants detained… According to federal officials, the rest were from Guatemala, Ecuador and Dominican republic.
The fourteen illegal immigrants were turned over to US border patrol for processing.
