Sentencing for animal cruelty

The jury handed down a sentence in the case against a valley man convicted of dragging his 4-month old puppy from the back of an all terrain vehicle.

A Hidalgo county jury deliberated for almost 7 hours today and shortly after 5 o clock this afternoon sentenced 26-year old Heriberto Lozano Zamora junior to 6 months in jail and a fine.

The defendant’s family was present in court during the punishment phase of the trial and told fox 2 news they will appeal the decision as soon as possible.

The official sentencing will be pronounced Friday morning in the 206th Hidalgo county district court.
