The White House has announced a new border security policy with Mexico. Violence has increased in cities near the border — and, U.S. government officials are worried about it spilling over into the United States. The White House said it will invest $700 million to work with Mexico on law enforcement to lower the violence. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano talked about what the new policy entails.
“First, we are doubling the number of law enforcement personnel that are working in border enforcement teams along the border. These are called best teams. These are teams that combine state and local with ICE and CBP personnel. Every state along the border will now have best teams. New Mexico, previously, had not had one,” says, Janet Napolitano / Secretary of Homeland Security. Secretary Napolitano will travel with the Deputy Attorney General to Mexico next week. The two will speak with Mexican officials to see what else can be done.
