SEARCHING FOR NAVARRO’S REPLACEMENT
June 30, 2008 | News
The Hidalgo County elections commission met this morning to begin the detailed process of hiring a replacement for Teresa Navarro as elections administrator.
The same day that a grand jury returned a series of indictments against her which included a two year theft scheme, Navarro resigned from her post as the head of the hidalgo county elections department.
Commissioners are now in a statewide search for suitable candidates to fill the post and hope to continue the search for at least two weeks.
The commission will also be checking whether it has the authority to conduct a criminal background check and a drug test of aspiring candidates.
Currently, state law only requires the elections department administrator to be a registered voter and is not seeking public office.
