The San Juan police force told fox 2 news they’ve come up with a way to more effectively prevent and solve crimes.

If the ordinance is passed by the full city council, local businesses will grant the agency access to their indoor and outdoor camera feeds… Otherwise there will be sanctioned.

Local business owners, like Mr. Regalado, who owns this liquor store off business 83 says the ordinance is a great idea. It’s something Regalado learned the hard way, especially after two suspects burst into his father’s business last March and shot one of their employees after they made off with the money from the cash register.

Emiliano Garcia and Michael Barrientos are the men who appear in the surveillance video. Thanks to the images, they were identified, located, arrested, charged, and now serve a 10 year sentence for attempted murder. Something that wouldn’t have happened had there not been a surveillance camera system in place.

According to police, this measure can provide some positive benefits for the business community in terms of both prevention and prosecution.

The police department plans to go before the city council in the next couple of weeks. If the ordinance were approved, it would be implemented in mid December.
