RED CROSS LENDS A HELPING HAND

Hurricane dolly has come, gone and certainly left a lot of work to be done in her wake. Large portions of Hidalgo County remain under water in particular north of Edinburg and surrounding areas. Utility workers labor tirelessly to restore power, and citizens travel through thick and thin to get back to work. The real story however, is the immense humanitarian effort brought forth by local, state, and government agencies.
Texas task force one, throughout the valley, is executing rescue efforts. This Edinburg family is certainly happy this rescue crew came along when they did.
Those “unlucky ones” are left with question of what to do next. The answer, is seek shelter. Harwell middle school in the city of Edinburg has been converted into a shelter, run by the Red Cross and they are accepting refugees from Edinburg Edcouch Elsa, San Carlos, and any other cities in the immediate area. Aside from a dry place to stay, families here can also receive nourishment and not just in the form of warm meals.
Eighty two year old Andrea Sanchez Garcia was forced out of her home when the rains came. She told us that she has lived through three other major hurricanes during her life.
Considering that the hurricane season is not yet over, perhaps we could learn a thing or two from Andrea
