There’s a dangerous trend among some pregnant women, and it’s something that can hurt both mom and baby.
We’re talking about Pregorexia. That’s anorexia among pregnant women.
Doctor Steven Lamm with NYU School of medicine says women need to realize — you’re not gaining quite as much weight as you may think.
Lamm says: “so if you’re overweight to begin with, maybe less, if you’re underweight, maybe a little more, but you know it only really adds up to 7 extra pounds. You have the weight of the baby, the placenta, the fluid, all kinds of things. It’s very important to maintain a proper weight for the health of the newborn. You’re talking about organs. You’re talking about development. This is really a critical issue. You don’t want the baby to be pre-term, have developmental problems in the baby.”
Lamm also says unborn babies need calcium. He says the baby could start taking it from mom causing her to become calcium deficient.
