Penitas residents angered with new taxes

Several residents living north of the city of Penitas were not please to hear they would be paying taxes for the city.

Residents living north of the city were recently told they were to pay taxes to the city of Penitas. These residents were paying taxes to the La Joya ISD and hidalgo county/ now they will have to pay taxes for Penitas.

The city limit signs were moved several months ago and the residents are unhappy with having to pay taxes for nothing. Some claim there are only three police for their area and they want to see more results from their tax dollars.

Other residents understand the situation and realize it takes time to get more police, firemen and other amenities taxes pay for. The cities residents are look for benefits such as sewage and electricity; they are looking to get a new sewage system sometime next week.

The tax issue was not on the agenda this evening therefore the city was not able to comment
