Over 200 workers will be laid off in Edcouch Elsa ISD

Just before the holidays, the Edcouch Elsa school district payroll begins to dwindle with a fire warned hit: close to 200 job cuts.
Several receptionists, maintenance workers, security guards and aids will be handed pink slips by Friday, December 19th.
The “phase one” of the district’s reduction plan is said to save over $5 million dollars. Due to the excessive expenditures, the Texas education agency, or T.E.A., assigned financial conservator Fred Liner to oversee the books. Regardless of the advice, they still managed to come up short $10.1 million dollars.
Superintendent Michael Sandroussi says more layoffs are expected in the upcoming months.
