As the temperatures continue to drop, shelters are open across the valley for those who need a safe and warm place to stay.

Mission officials have converted the old national guard armory, now the parks and recreation center into a safe haven.

The shelter is located at 712 n. Bryan road and will be open 24 hours until next Sunday morning.

The building won’t provide bedding but there will be proper amenities and plenty of room available to shelter anywhere between 150 and 200 persons.

City officials are trying to take care of families that don’t have gas or electric heaters at home.

They’re also making an effort to prevent residents from being injured.

If you do plan to seek shelter at the city of mission parks and recreation center, you are advised to secure and weatherize your homes, and plants before leaving…Proper security will also be provided by city staff… If you need information about the shelter available in mission, you may call the mission fire department at 580-8708.
