Foxrio2.com is not responsible for any misunderstanding.The entity known as “Mi Familia Vota” or “my family votes” and other partner organizations formally kicked off the 2008 get-out-the-vote campaign in a collaborative effort to turn around the valley’s historically low voter turn-out.
Of the 12 most populous Texas counties, Cameron and Hidalgo counties ranked dead last in voter turn-out in the 2004 presidential election, with only 42% of registered voters going to the polls, well below the state-wide average of 56%.
The “Mi Familia Vota” 2008 campaign is a non-partisan effort that involves seven local non-profit organizations. Over 120 people have been trained and have committed to volunteering in the voting effort.
