Magnetic microdiscs may be the key to fighting cancer.

Scientists from Argonne National Laboratory and the university of Chicago have developed super tiny discs made of Nano-magnetic material they say can kill cancer cells.

They also contain antibodies that can seek out brain cancer cells. Once the discs attach themselves to the cells… The scientists will alter its magnetic field… Causing the cancer cells to tremble, which kills them.

Researchers say because the antibodies in the disc are only attracted to the cancer cells, it’ll leave the surrounding healthy ones unharmed — unlike traditional chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

The technique is still in its early stages.. And is a long way off from human trials. Scientists need to figure out if the technique carries any side effects. So far they haven’t seen any in the lab.
