Mexico’s president Felipe Calderon arrives in a fleet of helicopters at the Anzalduas international bridge,,,, security is so tight that metal detectors are used, and hundreds of federal agents secure a large perimeter as he officially inaugurates the more than 3-mile long, 4-lane bridge connecting the state of Texas and Tamaulipas.

Calderon emphasizes that bridges and infrastructure are key to economic recovery, and an important factor to generate jobs

he says bridges not only unite communities and strengthen relationships, it’s an opportunity to modernize the border by making it secure, efficient and competitive for economic development.

McAllen mayor goes straight to the point: there is a need to expedite a permit for commercial cargo and the need for more customs officers to improve bridge wait times.

and congressman Henry Cuellar responds by saying funding for homeland security is just around the corner.

Calderon did not leave the event without recognizing that the u.S. And Mexico’s economies are designed to complement and integrate each other.
