The city of McAllen unveiled details of a newly installed wi-fi mesh network and video surveillance system, to support the city’s police department

The network features a wireless infrastructure to support a network of cameras positioned at the municipal park, the bicentennial hike & bike trail, and downtown McAllen.

Police chief Victor Rodriguez tell us this is not a video monitoring project but rather a video surveillance system designed to capture evidence.

The system uses a hundred cameras that will feed video to a hard drive at the McAllen police department

The project, worth about $9-hundred thousand dollars, is currently in phase 1 and could be expanded citywide.
