Superintendent, James Ponce tells fox2 news one of the major hits for the district has been the lack of growth in student enrollment.
Having already reduced payroll costs, reorganized and reassigned some staff, the ISD payroll costs are at 83% , that’s 3% higher than the 80% standard payroll the majority of districts have across the valley.
Ponce says cutting the 3 percent will allow the district to move forward with new operational needs.
For those employees that will lose their jobs in the fall, the Mcallen ISD is offering resources to help them get back on their feet. You can visit the website at www.mcallenisd.org.
