Man found guilty of shooting police officer
Sentencing began today for the man that opened fire on a Brownsville police officer.
A jury in the 357th court found 24-year-old Cecilio Mendoza guilty of attempted homicide and burglary of habitation. Now they must decide whether Mendoza will face 5 to 99 years in prison or life in prison.
The suspect opened fire on officer Rolando Trujillo in February of 2007 when he and his accomplice, Jose Limon, were caught red handed inside a home on the 1300 block of Bernard St.
As a result, officer Trujillo lost ring finger on his left hand and was also shot in the knee. The criminals also endangered the life of minor during the incident. We’ll continue following this case as it develops.
