People upset over government spending protested at “tea parties” across the nation including the Rio Grande Valley participated in this event. They are dubbed “tea parties” after the 1773 Boston harbor protest against British “taxation without representation.” people held signs about issues like gun control, abortion and –of course– taxing Americans until they are left in debt. Those who came out shouted and held signs hoping lawmakers in Washington D.C take notice. The two valley tea parties were held in Brownsville outside the federal courthouse, and in McAllen
