It has been a million dollar investment; two-point eight to be exact-but the goal to improve the Pharr-Reynosa bridge is almost a reality.
The improvements on the bridge started in July and will be finished by November of this year.
Currently the bridge has eight lanes in total, four of those are used for commercial use. The federal government coughed up one million dollars to finance the project while the city of Pharr had to finance the rest. Officials say the investment is worthwhile.
“We are adding two inspections facilities in commercial and 2 inspection facilities for cars. This should be able to reduce the wait time at the bridge, create an easier flow of traffic, help for the future to keep the border time wait low.”
Nearly six thousand private vehicle transit through this point of entry every day. It is also considered the fourth most important commercial port in the United States.
