Inmate Slashes U.S. Marshal
A federal inmate slashed a U.S. Marshal’s face and neck with a shaving razor in a McAllen courtroom. 31-year-old Jose Garcia Garcia Jr was in court Friday morning for a probation revocation hearing after pleading guilty last week to state murder charges. Garcia Jr was wrestled to the ground after the violent outburst, but not before slashing the deputy marshal across the throat and left cheek. The inmate and the deputy marshal were hospitalized, treated and released. Officials are still trying to figure out how the weapon made it past tight security in the first place. Garcia Jr was sentenced to 50-years-in prison for the murder of his cousin, 33-year-old Sandra Rincon. Garcia Jr stabbed the victim 35 times while trying to rob her of money to buy cocaine. He then held up a convenience store, robbed his girlfriend’s apartment and tried to break into a Weslaco home hours before ultimately being arrested.
