Infant Killer Sentenced

The mother of the 15-day old baby found stabbed to death in downtown McAllen has plead guilty to the tragedy. 20-year-old angelica Maria Gutierrez Acosta of Reynosa was sentenced to 30 years in prison as part of a plea arrangement. Yamileth Carona, who had just been released from Rio Grande Regional Medical Center was found dead in the bushes behind the downtown clinic for low income women and children. After she initially told police a man stole the infant out of her arms and ran off, Acosta confessed and directed officers to the kitchen knife used to stab the baby. Acosta told police she felt overwhelmed by the responsibilities of motherhood.
