Infants born underweight may grow up to be introverts.
A study published in the July issue of pediatrics finds babies born at a low birth weight are more likely to be shy and cautious as adults.
Researchers compared young adults born underweight to young adults who had a normal birth weight.
They evaluated temperament, motivation, socialization, and self-esteem. Men and women born underweight had more inhibitions and were more reserved.
Also, the lower the birth weight, the more shy and withdrawn a person seemed to be. But, don’t view the study as set in stone.
One doctor cautions just because you were tiny at birth doesn’t always mean you’re going to be an introvert.
