Federal investigators have determined that it was the weather and a lack of experience on behalf of the pilot, that caused the medical helicopter crash that killed three last year.
55-year-old pilot, 38-year-old flight nurse, Raul Garcia, and 39-year-old paramedic, Michael Sanchez died when the helicopter they were aboard crashed into the Laguna Madre. They were en route from valley Baptist medical center in Harlingen to the island to pick up a 60-year-old woman complaining of chest pains and difficulty breathing. The woman was not on board the helicopter and was ultimately taken to the hospital by ambulance.
