Hidalgo county commissioner Sylvia Handy resigns her office after pleading guilty to tax fraud and harboring undocumented immigrants

She says this Monday was the most difficult day of her life, when she admitted to a federal judge she made a mistake, and now takes this opportunity to offer her sincere apologies to Hidalgo county residents, especially to those who elected her to office.

Sentencing is set for June, and she’s willing to pay the consequences.

And while she makes herself available to help in a smooth transition for her replacement… She looks forward to being a full-time mother and wife.

The four-term commissioner tells fox 2 news she served the residents of precinct one dedicating her efforts on paving and maintaining 4-hundred miles of roads, 85 miles of ditches and almost 6-hundred colonias… But now it’s her time to regain the trust of the community.
