A groundbreaking ceremony is held this morning for the new Rio Grande Valley border security technology & training center. The $3.2 million investment is for a training facility that will not only help provide specialized training for Rio Grande Valley law enforcement agencies, it’s also expected to generate jobs for the area. Officials tell Fox 2 News the border will benefit from the establishment of this facility, but should also assist agencies in better coordination to prevent spill over violence from Mexico. The city of Hidalgo gave special thanks to the United States department of commerce economic development administration, Texas Department of Public Safety, South Texas College, and the lower Rio Grande Valley development council, for making this possible.
