Free medical assistance offered through Lonestar

Operation lone star has been underway in the valley, which provides free medical care to thousands. The operation includes the Texas military forces, the Texas health and human services commission along with several other agencies. They were able to provide two clinics for the mid-valley and will continue onto Starr Zapata, Webb and Jim Hogg counties.
This is the tenth year for the operation and they have been successful in helping low income families with Medicaid and food stamps as well. There are several medical examining rooms set up at the schools along with a pharmacy that has most common medications that are needed, which gave patients the chance to get free medications and vaccines.
With the excess of diseases due to stagnant water from the flood, there has been a surge of people in need of vaccines. There are also several valley residents who are in need of just simple medical supplies and attention in the colonias, so a third location was added at the Maria Luisa clinic in Pe
