Fox 2 News Viewers Help Turn Suspect In

The man that threatened a cashier at a stripes convenience store in Port Isabel has been located and is now behind bars. Joseph Leonard Viera, a resident of the city, was arrested in the
same vicinity where he committed the crime without incident, according to Port Isabel police. Investigators tell Fox 2 News they had previously received tips that Viera was the possible suspect that walked into the stripes store early April wearing a mask and carrying a knife. He demanded cash and told the employee he was going to kill her if she did not comply. Fortunately for her, she was right by the door and stormed out running to the fire department about half a block away to get help. As you can tell from the surveillance video, Viera left empty handed
Running the opposite way to avoid getting caught. After Fox 2 News ran the story, local residents called in with tips stating they believed Viera was the man behind the mask. This week, a judge issued an arrest warrant for Viera for possession of a controlled substance and he was detained on Tuesday.
