Former Alton police officer not guilty for raping male officer

November 7, 2008 News   Print Print   Email this Article Email this Article   No Comments

After being accused of drugging and raping a male officer, former Alton police chief, Jose Luis Vela has been found not guilty.

Vela has claimed his innocence from the beginning saying that the incident was completely consensual. The defense said vela and the police officer had sexual encounters more than a dozen times and that the alleged victim even had a key to vela’s home.

The former Alton police chief maintains the officer brought the charges in an effort to get paid out in a pending federal lawsuit. However, prosecutors denied the claim, saying no money in the world would be enough for a man to say he had been raped by another man.
